INTRODUCTION

It is estimated that every day there are about 44 000 thunderstorms across the planet.

Thunderstorms develop from well-developed cumulonimbus clouds. Not all cumulonimbus clouds develop into thunderstorms, however. The features described in this chapter apply to very active CB’s as well as actual thunderstorms.
